This FAQ is about the New (Blue) version of RefWorks, released to Quinnipiac in 2020. If you are currently using the Legacy (Orange) version of RefWorks, please consider migrating to the newer, more full-featured version, using these instructions. Information about the Legacy version can be found here.

New RefWorks has improved its de-duplication feature to make the process easier than ever!

  •  A drop down menu will appear. Select "Find duplicates" from the available options.

  • Of the available options, we recommend using one of the following:

    • Close Match (recommended): RefWorks compares the titles, authors, and publication dates of each reference. If there is enough similarity between references, RefWorks will identify them as being a match.

    • Exact Match: RefWorks compares the titles, authors, and publication dates of each reference. The data must match exactly in order to successfully find duplicates.

  • Once you have selected a method for finding duplicates, click "Find Duplicates". A list of duplicated references will be displayed. Any discovered duplicates will be pre-selected for deletion.

  • To delete, select the Delete or trash icon from the top toolbar. Click "Delete" to place your duplicates into the trash. You may uncheck any items that are not actually duplicates so that they are not deleted.

  • You can permanently delete them by visiting your Deleted folder. This folder is represented by a trash-can and found on the left side of the screen, with your other folders. This step is not required.

  • To permanently delete references, you can either clear everything or select specific references you wish to remove
