For importing references from an EndNote library (vr. 7 and earlier) into RefWorks

1. In EndNote open File > Export.

2. Leave the "Save as type" as Text File (.txt) and change the "Output Style" to "Ref Man (RIS)". 

3. Select the location where you would like to save your file.

4. Click Save.

5. Go into RefWorks and select Import from the "References" menu  (References > Import).

6. For your Import Filter/Data Source, select Desktop Biblio. Mgt. Software.

7. For your Database, select EndNote (RefMan RIS Format) -- be sure to select either the Mac or Windows version.

8. Click Select Text Files and browse and select the file you created in EndNote.

9. Click on Import at the bottom of the window.

Your records should be uploaded into RefWorks. You will be able to view them in the Last Imported Folder.

 

For importing references from an EndNote Library (vr. 8 and later) into RefWorks

1. Go into RefWorks and select Import from the "References" menu  (References > Import).

2. For your Import Filter/Data Source, select EndNote version 8.x library.  You do not need to adjust the information that pre-populates the Database section.

3. Click Select Text Files and browse to locate the appropriate file. Unless you changed its location, the file should be in your EndNote Library folder. The file itself will end in .enl.

4. Click on Import at the bottom of the window.

Your records should be uploaded into RefWorks. You will be able to view them in the Last Imported Folder.
